Reiki techniques are frequently used to improve sleep and eliminate insomnia. As Reiki promotes relaxation, many individuals have found that it has made it easier for them to fall asleep quickly and easily. As with a number of other issues, Reiki should not be considered a “cure” for insomnia or other sleep problems. There are a variety of factors that can impact your sleep quality and while Reiki is powerful, you’re bound to be disappointed if you’re pinning all your hopes for a good night’s sleep on this one type of therapy. That said, here’s a quick look at how you can best use Reiki techniques for sleep.
Help Reiki Do its Job

Reiki can only help if you make sure you’re taking care of yourself first. If you aren’t engaging in behaviors/activities that help to improve/encourage sleep, Reiki won’t be able to do much on its own. You’ll need to follow good sleep hygiene practices to make Reiki as effective as possible. These practices include, but are not limited to:
- Getting plenty of exercise
- Limiting caffeine intake close to bedtime
- Drinking alcohol in moderation
- Avoiding heavy meals before sleep
- Ending screen time (phones, tablets, TVs, etc.) one to two hours before bedtime
Reiki Self-Care Techniques
One method for Reiki self-care includes performing Reiki on your heart and third eye chakras. Place your hands on these chakras and let the Reiki flow. In many instances, this will help you fall asleep within a few minutes.

This second method involves a more thorough Reiki application. Begin by placing your hands over your closed eyes and rest your palms on your cheekbones. Stay in this position for five minutes to reduce stress and enhance the calm state of mind that comes with meditation. Then, move your hands to either side of your chest just below your collarbones and stay in this position for another five minutes. This will help to regulate your heart rate and blood pressure, both of which contribute to your ability (or lack thereof) to fall asleep.
For the third five-minute segment, place one hand above your navel and one hand below. This position serves to restore energy and improve vitality. Finally, for the last five minutes, put your hands in the shape of a “V” over your lower abdomen just slightly above your pubic bone. This position helps to ground you and feel more self-confident.
Regular Reiki Sessions
As an alternative to Reiki self-care, you can schedule sessions with a Reiki Master. Feel free to let him or her know of your problems with sleep. Your Reiki Master can tailor your session to meet your needs as well as provide suggestions as to what steps you can take on your own to improve your quality of sleep. If you’d like to schedule a session with Yarra, you can book an appointment online or give her a call at (720) 495-2525.
